When I was searching online news to do task of take-home test number one i.e. article of English online news with current issue and translate it into Indonesian, I was sad because of that current issue is about corruption in Indonesia (E-KTP Project) and now I want to write my opinion about one of economic problem in Indonesia that is Corruption and give a bit of solution from me as student of FEB, UGM.
What is corruption? Why it’s so cruel?
Okay let’s we start it from definition of corruption. Corruption is a form of dishonest or unethical conduct by a person entrusted with a position of authority, often to acquire personal benefit. Corruption may include many activities including bribery and embezzlement, though it may also involve practices that are legal in many countries. Government, or ‘political’, corruption occurs when an office-holder or other governmental employee acts in an official capacity for personal gain (Wikipedia). From definition, we got some key words such as bribery, embezzlement, government, and political. Bribery is the act or practice of giving or taking a bribe (Merriam-Webster), if someone / an institution receive money, goods or other forms of recompense in order to change their behavior (in accordance with the wishes of giver), so that’s belongs to the category of corruption. Simple thing of bribery as someone was ticketed by police and then give money to police in order to be free of punishment. Who’s to blame? In my opinion, either someone or police were guilty but the police was more guilty in this case because tasks of police is to protect people, educate people, and maintain public security. Police as state apparatus is supposed to educate people about importance for obey traffic regulation and punish any-body who has done something wrong concerning traffic regulation instead of accepting bribe. How about Embezzlement? Embezzlement is to secretly take money that is in your care or that belongs to an organization or business you work for (Cambridge dictionary). Bribery and embezzlement is like graft case e-KTP procurement project, because in that case have already included doing a bribery and embezzlement. In the e-KTP project, there is an attempt to pass the trillions budget and the remainder of the budget is distributed to some members of Parliament and government. This is so abash! State budget that should be benefit for public instead of enrich political elite. They are elected as parliament for represent interest of public not for their interest. How very cruel corruption can make this country does not develop and is still poor because of the act from some parliament elite. We need to strengthen and support the KPK in eradicating corruption, as doing by students of the Faculty of Law UGM which rejected the revision of ‘’UU KPK’’ to parliament recently. We really appreciate that has been done by Faculty of Law UGM. As student of FEB UGM, We can do good habit from our everyday life in college such as don’t leave absences to friend, simple thing like that made us more integrity and shaping our honesty since now in order that we as the next good people or leader for this nation. Amen…
